Shrovetide: Ball 'goaled' at ancient football game in Ashbourne

The moment the ball was "goaled" amid a huge scrum in an ancient football game has been captured on camera.

Thousands of players have been taking part in the Royal Shrovetide Football game in Ashbourne, Derbyshire.

At about 21:30 GMT on Tuesday, Will Nash "goaled" the ball for the Up'Ards, giving them the advantage ahead of day two.

The game is traditionally played in the town on Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday, and has been held nearly every year since at least 1667.
