Runners complete 8,000-mile 'torch relay'

Amateur runners have completed the entire length of the Olympic torch relay route, 8,000 miles (13,000km), on foot.

The 2,000 participants of the Real Relay ran with a baton from Land's End to the stadium in Stratford, east London.

The relay started 10 days after the Olympic flame left Land's End on 19 May, but reached its destination five days before it.

Richard Smith from Cornwall was part of the team which objected to the Olympic flame being bussed between locations during the official relay and decided to complete the route on foot.
