Arty gorillas to celebrate zoo's birthday

Thirty gorillas will be on display throughout Devon this summer raising money for gorilla conservation and celebrating the 90th birthday of Paignton Zoo.

The life-size statues are being decorated by artists in sheds and studios throughout the South West.

Some are being worked on in public spaces so people can watch their creation.

A spokesperson for the zoo said the idea was to celebrate its birthday and raise money for river gorillas in Africa.

The designs for the gorillas have been submitted by local artists, children and community groups.
