Dog rescuer admits ice crawl was dangerous

A man who crawled across thin ice to rescue the family dog has admitted that what he did was dangerous and he could have died.

Malcolm Jarvis said he could not stand by and watch the animal drown in the River Stour at Dedham, in Essex. Mr Jarvis said adrenaline kicked in and he had to act.

It has led to fresh safety warnings to dog owners not to go into freezing water after their pets.
