Ford given £13m government grant to develop greener cars
The government is investing £13m to help car-maker Ford to develop more fuel-efficient engines.
Business Secretary Vince Cable announced the move in a visit to the company's research centre at Dunton, near Basildon, in Essex, where he met apprentices.
Mr Cable said he liked cars which were reliable and fast but added that in future they needed to be environmentally-friendly as well.
The investment at Dunton is part of a joint government and industry £1bn research project.
