Star Wars fans battle in UK lightsaber combat championship

Lightsaber-wielding Jedi fans came face-to-face in battle during the first UK combat championships.

Competitors gathered in Brockworth, Gloucestershire, for two rounds of qualifying before eight progressed to the Saturday finals.

The winner - Paul Dunsford, of Bristol - said it was "great fun" to be involved in a new sport where "every move you learn has to be very well thought out and crafted".

Contestants use flexible blades mounted on weighted hilts.
