Isle of Wight hospital staff get 'old age' suit

Staff working with elderly and dementia patients are using an age simulation suit to help understand the challenges they face.

Using weights and straps, the suit restricts movement to the neck, knees and ankles, while earphones simulate hearing loss and goggles reduce sight.

Staff from porters to consultants at St Mary's Hospital, Isle of Wight, will be trained in the suit.

Beverly Malone, dementia liaison nurse, said: "We learn very well by experience so it's incredibly valuable."
