Jane Austen's poor sight 'caused by arsenic'

Tests on three pairs of glasses once owned by Jane Austen revealed she would have hardly been able to see towards the end of her life.

It is thought the author's poor eyesight may have been caused by arsenic, which was commonly used in medication and may even have contributed to her death at the age of 41.
