Canterbury's ties with military end with Howe Barracks closure

The Queen has been visiting Canterbury where soldiers from the Howe Barracks were inspected by their Commander-in-Chief for the last time.

It is the end of a historic connection between the city and the military.

The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders have been based at Howe Barracks for 10 years, but they are now moving out and the barracks sold off.

They are the last representatives of the regular Army in the city, which has had a base in Canterbury since 1794.
