Kent Police 'may investigate by phone'

Kent's chief constable reveals the force may use only the phone to investigate some crime because budget cuts mean they cannot afford to send an officer.

The measure is a result of budget cuts of £50m in four years which have seen the loss of 500 police officers and 1,000 support staff.

Kent Police Federation spokesman Ian Pointon said it was a return to the resource levels of the 1980s.
