Letters from Great Chart WW1 soldiers on display

Soldiers from the village of Great Chart, Kent received nearly 7,000 letters and parcels from home while they were serving in World War One.

Elizabeth Quintin Strouts, who lived in the village, formed a committee to send useful and comforting items every week to the men of the parish to lighten their hardship and remind them that they were not forgotten.

Few of those letters have survived, but an exhibition of the soldiers' return letters home is opening at Godington House in Ashford.
