New Medway Maritime Hospital chief is 'optimistic'

The new chief executive of the Medway Maritime Hospital has said she hopes to turn the hospital around.

In July 2013 the Gillingham hospital was placed in "special measures", amid concerns over higher than average death rates.

And the Care Quality Commission issued a formal warning in March 2014 after inspectors discovered bloodstained walls and patients waiting on trolleys for hours.

Lesley Dwyer, who started last week, has come from a Queensland hospital trust, in Australia.
