Lancashire County Council battles light pollution

Lancashire County Council has tried to improve conditions for local astronomers by turning down light pollution.

The problem in the county, as elsewhere in the UK, has made it difficult for stargazers to see the night sky.

Councillor Tim Ashton said tackling the problem would reduce the council's carbon footprint as well as light problems by dimming street lights at night.

However, he said the council would "listen to people's concerns" as regards any potential safety issues attached to the idea.
