Medical Research Council: A century of fighting disease

The impact of its research has been seen across the world and this year the London-based Medical Research Council (MRC) is celebrating its centenary.

The MRC was set up initially to try to combat tuberculosis and, since then, its scientists have been involved in ground-breaking drugs trials.

BBC London's Matthew Morris met Prof Denny Mitchison, 93, one of those involved in the 1940s and who is still working today at St George's, University of London.
