M25 hard shoulders to become permanent driving lanes

A £300m scheme to ease congestion on the M25 will see sections of the motorway's hard shoulder opened as permanent driving lanes.

The project is due to be completed by early 2015.

Transport Research Laboratory's Nick Reed said the scheme would allow for a better management of traffic.

Paul Watters from the AA says the scheme needs extra safeguards, but Andrew Page-Dove from the Highways Agency says measures are already in place.
