Lorries checked in London cycle safety campaign

The Mayor of London has announced plans to charge lorry drivers driving into the capital whose HGVs are not fitted with safety equipment such as sidebars.

Police have been stopping drivers with unsafe loads but lorry driver and scaffolder Steve Gallagher said: "Some cyclists are a danger to themselves".

Natalie Chapman, of the Freight Transport Association, says hauliers want cyclists to take more responsibility.

Transport minister Stephen Hammond MP also appears in this report by BBC London's Tom Edwards.
