Heavy policing during EDL march

Up to 3,000 police officers were deployed as hundreds of English Defence League (EDL) supporters took part in a march in east London.

The march, from Queen Elizabeth Street to Aldgate, passed off peacefully despite concerns from the local community.

In total 300 people were arrested on Saturday.

Scotland Yard said 286 people were part of a counter-demonstration against the EDL and were arrested for breaching the conditions imposed on them.
