Boy tries new bone-marrow transplant method
A five-year-old boy has become one of the first in the world to try a new bone-marrow transplant method.
Doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital carried out the surgery, which helps with donor shortages as it means a perfect cell match is not needed.
Mohammed Ahmed's father Jamil said the treatment was his son's only hope as he was born with severe combined immunodeficiency syndrome.
Dr Waseem Qasim from the Institute of Child Health, which ran the study along with the hospital, said the technique could be used to treat other conditions such as leukaemia.
