Crime in London 'drops in last year' says Met Police

There were nearly 50,000 fewer crimes recorded in London last financial year, according to the Metropolitan Police.

The figures released show there were fewer burglaries, robberies and mobile phone thefts in 2013-14.

But critics have claimed that the figures are misleading.

Caroline Pidgeon, a Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member said she was concerned about the number of crimes which are solved by the Met, while whistleblower PC James Patrick tells MPs how crime statistics can be altered; however, Assistant Commissioner Simon Byrne said it was not possible to make 7,000 crimes disappear.
