Campaigners save Hackney's The Chesham Arms

An east London pub is set to start trading again after campaigners fought to save it from being transformed into a flat.

The Save The Chesham group battled for two years to reopen The Chesham Arms, in Mehetabel Lane, Hackney.

Hackney Council granted the pub further planning protection after the group objected to the owner's unauthorised plan to turn the pub into a residential property.

Now a local publican has signed a 15-year lease to reopen the venue.

BBC London's Alice Salfield spoke to Jonathan Sockett, from the Save The Chesham group, and Tom Stainer, from the Campaign for Real Ale.
