How paramedics are reducing hospital pressure

The Covid pandemic put unprecedented pressure on healthcare. At its height, the London Ambulance Service took 8,000 calls in 24 hours, 40% more than a typical busy day.

One tactic to help cope with demand is the increasing deployment of advanced paramedic practitioners. With extra training and access to more kit, they aim to treat more people on the scene or at home instead of at hospital.
