Dunkirk rescue footage found at University of Manchester
Footage of the World War Two rescue of Allied troops from Dunkirk, France, has been discovered the University of Manchester's library.
They were filmed by Lt Philip Roderick Hall while he served onboard the destroyer HMS Whitehall 75 years ago. He was killed in action in 1942.
Between 26 May and 4 June 1940, the vessel was part of the British fleet that rescued about 340,000 British and Allied troops trapped on the town's beaches by advancing German forces.
The two silent black-and-white reels were found at the university's John Rylands Library by Lt Hall's niece, who was researching her family's history.
BBC North West Tonight's Yunus Mulla spoke to John Hodgson from the library.
