Flying Scotsman to return following £4.2m refurbishment

One of the world's most iconic locomotives, The Flying Scotsman, has been brought back to life following a £4.2m refurbishment.

The engine, which was retired from service in 1963, is expected to take to the tracks "early next year" for test runs on the East Lancashire Railway.

It has been restored for York's National Railway Museum (NRM) at Riley & Son in Bury, Greater Manchester.

Co-director Colin Green said: "It's been an honour and a privilege to be working on such a vital piece of history."
