The most animal-friendly motorway link road in England

A new road between two of Cheshire's motorways has made life easier for motorists and is also hoped to have a huge impact on wildlife too.

Highways England said the A556 Link Road, which connects the M6 with the M56, is the greenest road it has ever made.

The agency has spent more than £1m ensuring that habitat and highway can co-exist.

Its features include a man-made sett for badgers, replacement bat roosts and a network of 21 ponds for great crested newts and water shrews.
