Manchester train driver retires after more than forty years on job

Friends and family of a train driver who has retired after forty years on the job have gathered to see him off on one last journey.

Bob Darlington, who has ended his career with Northern trains, first began work on the railways in 1983.

A retirement celebration for the 57-year-old from Hyde was held at Manchester Victoria, when he drove his final train out of the station on a return trip to Chester.

Colleagues said he was a "very special driver".
