Cammell Laird: The shipyard that won the Atlantic
It was the shipyard that turned out one ship every 21 days.
Cammell Laird shipyard in Birkenhead is acknowledged as being a key part of Britain's war effort in WWII.
The shipyard is still a major repairer of vessels and for the first time in 20 years it is building ships again.
It may never produce the numbers it did during the war but, as Merseyside celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Battle Of The Atlantic, the contribution the shipyard made to the survival of Britain in its darkest hours will never be forgotten.
