Liverpool Giants: Warm-up shows begin in city

Warm-up performances to a show which will see giant marionettes commemorate the outbreak of World War One have begun in Liverpool.

The Memories of August 1914 show, which will see three giant figures parade around the city, has been preceded by one of the trio, a giant grandmother, sleeping in St George's Hall.

Visitors to the hall said the marionette was "well worth queuing up for an hour" to see.

The event has also seen actors play out scenes, including one taking the role of the 17th Earl of Derby, the founder of the city's volunteer battalions the Liverpool Pals.
