Helen McCourt murder: Mother hands in petition to Downing Street

A woman whose murdered daughter's body has never been found went to Downing Street to hand over a petition calling for a change in the law.

Marie McCourt, from St Helens, is calling for "Helen's Law" so killers cannot be considered for parole until they reveal where their victim's remains are buried.

After handing the petition in to Justice Minister Mike Penning, Mrs McCourt said: "Never to be able to give them that burial is just torture beyond anything else."

Helen McCourt was murdered by Ian Simms in Billinge, Merseyside, in 1988. On Wednesday, the Parole Board said he had been recommended for a move to an open prison.
