German WW1 U-boat wreck identified off Norfolk coast

The wreck of a World War One German U-boat has been found off the coast of Norfolk.

Scans by windfarm developers showed the submarine lying about 55 miles (90km) east of Caister-on-Sea.

It has been identified as SM U-31, which left Wilhelmshaven on 13 January 1915, and is believed to have struck a mine with the loss of its entire crew.

Mark Dunkley, a marine archaeologist at Historic England, said: "Relatives and descendants of those lost... may now take some comfort in knowing the final resting place of the crew."
