Matt Morton welcomes increase in openly gay footballers

A footballer who told his team-mates he was gay via a WhatsApp group said he was pleased more players have followed in his footsteps.

Matt Morton, now player manager at Thetford Town, came out in 2019.

"We've had five times the amount of players do that in that five-year period as we had in the 30-year period before," he said.

He recently co-presented a documentary with broadcaster Rylan Clark about homophobia in men's football.
