Northamptonshire pilot of alcohol-check tag mooted as 'jail alternative'
An electronic tag to keep people sober is being piloted by Northamptonshire Police in the hopes of reducing alcohol-related crime.
The ankle tag, which originated in the United States, can measure alcohol consumption through a person's sweat and can be worn for up to four months.
Police said it offered a cost-effective alternative to court proceedings and jail.
