Farmer's daughter became 17th Century highway robber
A 17th Century farmer's daughter and her lover were the Bonnie and Clyde of their day in Nottinghamshire, it has been revealed.
Joan Phillips was born around 1656, the only child of a respectable Northamptonshire farmer.
She fell in love with Edward Bracey who was a thief and they embarked on a life together on the road.
She was eventually caught and sentenced to death in April 1685.
