Disaster simulation practice for emergency services

A freight train and a passenger train collided spilling potentially lethal acid - in a simulation designed to test the response of the emergency services.

Volunteers teamed up with freight firm DB Schenker, based at Toton sidings, on the border between Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, to stage the exercise.

Matt Reavill and Richard Cropley, from Nottinghamshire Fire Service, said it was treated as a real incident and that a film of the event will be used for further training.

Mark Binney, from DB Schenker, said he hoped it would never have to be done in real life but a chance to practice is invaluable.
