Mother of Nottingham attacks victim urges police to 'pause and reflect'

The mother of a 19-year-old boy stabbed to death last year in Nottingham has told BBC Radio 5 Live that police officers who have "lost their humanity" should not be in the force any more.

Emma Webber, mother of victim Barnaby Webber, has penned an open letter calling for greater respect for her son after members of a police WhatsApp group sent "abhorrent" messages.

Nottinghamshire Police has declined to comment.

Mr Webber and Grace O'Malley-Kumar, both 19, and 65-year-old Ian Coates were stabbed to death on 13 June 2023.

Valdo Calocane, 32, carried out the stabbings, and attempted to kill three others. He was given an indefinite hospital order for manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility.

Mrs Webber told Naga Munchetty: "When you lose your humanity and your respect for life, I don't think you should be working in those services."

She called on the force to "pause and reflect" on the impact to her and her family, adding: "This is a child."
