Overdue Oxford library book returned after 55 years

A library book more than half a century overdue has been returned to an Oxfordshire library.

The copy of Margaret Jourdain's Regency Furniture had been out on loan from Oxford City Library since November 1958.

After being 19,000 days late, it was finally returned by an elderly lady to Witney Library. Staff declined her offer to pay the fine for the book, estimated to be in the region of £1,000.
