Oxford University opens doors to encourage BME students

A group of black and ethnic minority (BME) students have been spending three days at Oxford University to sample life at the institution.

It forms part of the university's attempt to widen access to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

About a quarter of white undergraduate applicants got into Oxford in 2015, compared to 11.2% of British Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis who were accepted on to courses.

It is hoped the visit of the school children BBC Asian Network spoke to will encourage more BME students to apply, for a wider range of courses.
