Dornier Bomber undergoes conservation work at RAF museum

A German World War II bomber salvaged from the English Channel is undergoing the first stage of conservation work at an RAF museum.

The badly damaged Dornier Do-17 aircraft was lifted from the water off the Kent coast more than 70 years after it was shot down during the Battle of Britain.

It is being sprayed with water and citric acid in a hangar at RAF Cosford in Shropshire.

Darren Priday from the conservation team said: "The irrigation system will hopefully soften up the marine growth so we can clean that off using soft brushes.

"Hopefully that will preserve anything that is underneath, like the original paintwork."
