Weapon haul hailed 'a success' by West Midlands Police

West Midlands Police have described a two-week gun "surrender", which has yielded more than 100 weapons, as a "huge success".

Shotguns, rifles, pistols and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition have been handed into police stations in the force area between 19 July to 2 August

The operation follows tougher firearms legislation introduced last month.

All of the guns are being tested for evidence of use in crimes.

Det Insp Andy Bannister said: "It's been a huge success - that's 131 fewer firearms that could end up on the hands of criminals."
