European Commission investigates Hinkley nuclear deal

The European Commission has launched a detailed investigation into the deal to build a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point in Somerset, the BBC understands.

The commissioners want to know if it breaches EU competition laws, and a decision could be months away.

EDF - the company behind Hinkley C - told the BBC this was always to be expected and it does not see it as a major setback.

But, a local MP has criticised the EU and said it was "typical of their attitude towards Britain".

BBC Points West's Clinton Rogers reports.
