Save Birnbeck Pier campaign launched

A new campaign has been launched to try to save the derelict Birnbeck Pier in Weston-super-Mare.

The group Let's Save Birnbeck Pier wants to buy the structure which closed in 1994.

The campaign has been backed by comedian John Cleese and Eastenders actor Timothy West who both visited the pier as children.

Mr West, who is patron of the National Piers Society, explained why he wanted to see it saved.
