Knifeman threatened officers in shop

A knife-wielding man has been jailed for three years after he tried to rob a shop but was apprehended by police who were alerted by his own father.

James Lewis, 22, of Shrewton, Wiltshire, went into a Co-op shop and threatened a member of staff with the 10-inch (25cm) blade.

Police were alerted to the attack by Lewis's father.

When officers told Lewis to drop the knife, they fired a Taser at him and he was arrested.

Lewis was sentenced at Salisbury Crown Court, having pleaded guilty on 24 February to attempted robbery.
