Perseus sculpture moved after 165 years

A Staffordshire sculpture is being moved to London to take part in an exhibition at the Royal Academy of Art.

Michael Walker, from the Trentham Estate, described the bronze statue of Perseus as a "fantastic example of Florentine art".

Created in about 1840, it is a copy of a 16th Century sculpture designed by artist Benvenuto Cellini.

It has sat on a plinth alongside Trentham Estate's mile-long lake for the past 165 years.

The Bronze exhibition at the Royal Academy of Art is due to run from 15 September to 9 December, after which Perseus will be returned to Staffordshire, Mr Walker said.
