Alton Towers Smiler crash footage captured

Mobile phone footage from a teenager called Thomas shows the Smiler ride at Alton Towers immediately after a crash that seriously injured four people.

"I knew instantly the moment the train dropped off lift one that it was going to crash," the 14-year-old said.

Sixteen people were involved in the crash between two carriages on a ride at the Staffordshire theme park.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing "screaming and shouting" and "a loud crash" when the collision occurred at 14:09 BST.
