500-mile walk by Staffordshire bird lover to save curlew

A naturalist from Staffordshire is embarking on a 500-mile walk to raise funds to help save the endangered curlew. Mary Colwell is following the path of the bird from Ireland, through Wales, to East Anglia.

The curlew, Europe's largest wading bird, has a long down-curved bill and evocative call. It was once a common sight across the Staffordshire Moorlands and other upland areas, but its numbers are in steep decline.
