Olive Edis: Norfolk female war photographer celebrated

The work of a Norfolk photographer is being commemorated as part of the centenary of World War One.

Olive Edis, who had a studio in Sheringham, was the first woman to work as an official war photographer.

She was commissioned by the National War Museum, now the Imperial War Museum, to photograph women at war.

A large collection of her work is now on display at Cromer Museum, external.

When Edis became a war photographer she had already established herself as a respected photographer, taking picture of Prime Minister David Lloyd George and writer Thomas Hardy.

Her work is being marked as part of BBC World War One at Home.
