Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson struggles at Eaglescliffe station
Paralympian Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson has spoken out about her struggle in getting a train from her local station, in Stockton-on-Tees.
The wheelchair racing champion, external, who was made a dame in 2005 before being appointed to the House of Lords in 2010, said getting on to the platform at Eaglescliffe Station is often the biggest challenge of the day as she has to pull herself up a steep 50m long ramp.
But Network Rail say installing lifts at the 150-year-old station would cost £5m.
