Major jobs fears as steelmaking "paused" on Teesside

Around 2,000 workers at the giant SSI steelworks on Teesside are taking in the news that production at the plant has been "paused" by its owners.

SSI says the decision to "pause" production was taken reluctantly but it was left with little choice in the face of ongoing issues with the supply of raw materials and services

Unions and local Labour MP's are calling for the government to step in with offers of political and financial support

SSI's Chief Operating Officer - Cornelius Louwrens admits the situation is very serious
