Motorists face A1 Gateshead roadwork delays

Motorists have been warned to expect severe delays on the A1 in Gateshead as roadworks start.

Work has started to repair Allerdene Bridge, which carries traffic over the East Coast Mainline, and is expected to be completed by the end of August.

The Highways Agency has introduced a series of traffic management measures on the road which is used by about 100,000 vehicles a day.
