Unseen Norman Cornish sketches go on display

Previously unseen work by County Durham painter Norman Cornish has gone on display.

Much of it is from sketchbooks uncovered by the former miner's family.

They said discovering the 50-year-old drawings - by an artist on the brink of international acclaim - was "like having a seat in the front row of history".

The work is on show at the Greenfield Gallery in Newton Aycliffe until September.
