Durham Miners' Gala attracts 100,000 people

An estimated 100,000 people crammed into the streets of Durham for the annual Durham Miners' Gala.

The event, which celebrates the mining heritage of the North East, featured traditional marching bands and a parade of banners.

Political and trade union speeches followed the parade on the city's racecourse.

But organisers fear the gala may not be able to continue for much longer because of a shortage of funds.
